Deadbeat Cavalier are a three-piece band based in Oxford drawing influences from the likes of the Lawrence Arms, Against Me!, Hot Water Music and many other bands from that sort of genre. They formed in 2006 after Oxford Brookes students Mike and Phil met real Oxford student Tom at the weekly rock night Sabotage at the old Oxford hotspot known as the Zodiac (now the Carling Academy). Mike started talking to Tom because they both had the same Red Lights Flash t-shirt and then it turned out that Tom had a CD of Mike's old band, Mute Conclusion. Their conversation then went on to the topic of loving Against Me! and Mike grabbed Phil and introduced him to Tom as "someone else who loves Against Me!" Phil cheered loudly right in Tom's face and they then sang Against Me! songs to each other for the rest of the night (even though some shitty goth-metal or something was probably being played much louder on the PA speakers in the club). They immediately decided to form a band which eventually ended up being Phil on guitar/vocals, Tom on bass/vocals and Mike on drums. They decided to call themselves Deadbeat Cavalier and started playing gigs around the Oxford area and along the way recorded a self-titled 12-track CD in just three days in March 2007. Mike moved away to Prague later that year and was replaced on the drums by George, who Tom had recently played with in a ska/punk band called Coprolite.
