De Vogels (meaning: the birds / the dudes) were a stoner/kraut/improv octet from Rotterdam, The Netherlands that existed only for a couple of years –four or so– in the very beginning of the twentyfirst century. Let’s say 2003 up to 2006. The band members were all mystic warriors and riders of the so called ‘Drient’ (the god that gave the band their power and inspiration) and all had illustruous nicknames. Original Lineup: de vogel (drums), proberen (percussion), choca (soprano saxophone, vibes), vinniefoewakka (trumpet and electric guitar), argus flexeur d’electrique (samples), friet futura (electric guitar), de rotterdamse reverent (keys) and de nuge (bass). They made numerous recordings, but none were officially released. In february of the year 2004 they did a small tour with french dub ’n bass outfit hightone and they once (assumably in 2005) performed in a crazy collaboration with Rotterdam poet Rien Vroegindeweij, other gigs stay unrecorded. Vinniefoewakka (AKA Vincent van Duin) and Choca reformed the band in the year 2006 and started the recording of an album later to become the debut album of their new band ‘The New Earth Group’ featuring a.o. their old buddy de rotterdamse reverent (AKA Jeroen S. Rozendaal) on organs, vocoder and (A/D) synthesizers, Proberen on drums and credited as (electronic) beat creator and de vogel (AKA Homey Universalis) playing drums on some small portion of ‘Electric Mario’.
