Biography De Artsen were an indie-rock band from The Netherlands. They formed in Arnhem in 1981 and disbanded in 1990. De Artsen consisted of Joost Visser (vocals, guitar), Peter Visser (guitar), Herman Bunskoeke (bass), and Reinier Veldman (drums). In 1989 De Artsen released the album Conny Waves with a Shell on their own label Why Are There People Like Frank? Records. The album received a positive response from critics and was followed by a series of concerts in The Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, and France. At the end of 1989, Joost Visser suddenly left the band. Having lost their lead singer and main songwriter, the remaining band members soon decided to call it quits. In 1990 a collection of studio out-takes was released under the title Out of Sack. De Artsen's legendary album Conny Waves with a Shell was re-released on cd by Brinkman Records in 1993. Joost Visser started a solo carreer. He hardly ever performs and has so far produced just one solo album (Partners In Hair, 1994). Peter Visser and Herman Bunskoeke, joined by vocalist/guitarist Carol van Dijk (who worked as a sound engineer for De Artsen) and drummer Berend Dubbe (who was a roadie for De Artsen), formed a new band in 1991. They named this band Bettie Serveert, a moniker they had already used for an Artsen side-project in the mid-eighties. Bettie Serveert became an internationally successful indie-rock band. Former De Artsen drummer Reinier Veldman joined Bettie Serveert in 1999. Discography Conny Wa
