Artist
Drummer and keyboardist David Van Tieghem produced several albums in the 80's in which he combined synthesizers and conventional drumming with percussion using unconventional objects such as ashtrays and teacups. It should be noted he began doing this at the same time as Test. Dept., before the emergence of more mainstreams acts like Stomp and Blue Man. But while all of them perform unconventional percussion on a grand scale, David Van Tieghem uses his in a small, intimate way in which the odd objects make beautiful, unobtrusive sounds, drawing no attention to themselves. He played with Laurie Anderson for her Home of the Brave tour and on her Mister Heartbreak album.
