Artist
A French composer born July 3, 1978 in Nîmes. After studying music and musicology at the conservatory and university of Montpellier, David Hudry obtained an aggregation in music before entering the class for composition and new technologies at the Paris Conservatory (2003-2008). A pupil notably of Emmanuel Nunes, Stefano Gervasoni and Luis Naon, he completed his training with a course at Ircam. His investigations into aesthetic issues linked to new technologies led him to develop his own interface for the spatialisation and articulation of sounds (Impromptu pour un monodrame for bassoon and real-time equipment, 2007). His catalogue, ranging from pieces for solo instrument (Verwandlung II, 2010) to works for chamber orchestra (Räumezeit, 2004; Nachtspiegel, 2008), exemplify a poetic and a musical dramaturgy defined by the combination of types of writing, register, modes of play and electronic treatment. Following a commission from the French state, David Hudry composed, in 2010, Passeggiata, a sound installation for the cloisters of the Abbey of Royaumont. A member of the collective Multilatérale, he undertakes much collaborative work and develops synergies with different artistes from the new transdisciplinary scene of contemporary opera. The Académie des Beaux-Arts awarded him the Pierre Cardin Prize in 2012. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
