Formed in Brighton in the early 1990s, David Devant and his Spirit Wife are a glam-pop band that named themselves after a Victorian magician. Renowned for live shows that originally included ‘music hall’-style props, the band has recently toned down its stage performances but still tours regularly. The band’s lead singer – The Vessel – also performs on his own under the pseudonym “Mr Solo”. The band acted as "house band" on the 1996 comedy mini series Asylum. This was notable as it was the first collaboration for Simon Pegg, Edgar Wright and Jessica Stevenson.
