David Alan Ross (born October 18, 1958 in Indianapolis, Indiana) is an American singer/songwriter of Traditional Country and Americana music. Ross’ style is simple and direct in the style of Van Zandt, Prine and Earl. Growing up in central Indiana, Ross was exposed to the recordings of Hank Williams at an early age by the father of a childhood friend. Williams’ music quickly defined for Ross, a taste in music that endures to this day. The simple melodies and true to life narratives of Williams’ music, soon had Ross embracing not only the cornerstone recordings of country artists like Jimmie Rodgers and other country music pioneers, but also the early blues recordings of Robert Johnson, Son House and Muddy Waters; finding the same simple attributes present in both styles. Ross quickly subscribed to the notion espoused by Hank Williams himself; that country music was just “white man’s blues”. David Alan Ross is currently unsigned.
