Qolām Hossein Darvish known as Darvish Khān (Persian: درویش خان) (b. 1872 – d. 22 November 1926, Tehran, Iran) was a Persian classical musician and a tar player. Darvish Khan was born in Tehran in 1872. His teachers were his father, Haji Bashir, and Aqa Hossein-Qoli Farahani. As a child, he played the drum in the Aziz Soltan band at the court of Nassereddin Shah. Darvish Khan is known to have invented pishdaramad, a free-standing composition to be played at the beginning of a musical performance. His rengs (dances) are considered to be some of his most beautiful compositions. He has also written several tasnifs (songs). He was a virtuoso tar player and decided to add a sixth string to this instrument to expand its tuning possibilities and enhance its sound. He played exceptional concerts at the Grand Hotel of Tehran with other great masters of Persian music of his time such as Aref Qazvini, Haji Khan Zarbgir, Ebrahim Mansouri, and Reza Mahjoubi. He went to London for a recording session with Habibollah Shahrdar, Hossein Taherzadeh, Baqer Khan Rameshgar, Assadollah Khan, and Akbar Khan Flouti. He also spent a year in Tbilisi, Georgia, working with Baqer Khan, Hossein Taherzadeh, Eqbal Azar, and Abdollah Davami. He received the Legion of Honor, first-class, from the French government for his works and concerts for poor people. Among Darvish Khan’s most prominent pupils were Said Hormozi, Hossein Sanjari, Abdollah Dadvar, Moussa Maroufi, Morteza Neydavoud, Abolhasan Saba,
