Artist
There are two artists with the name Dark Brown: (1) Dark Brown is the latest solo project from Los Angeles producer-composer, Bryan Lee Brown. The all-instrumental work fuses the abstract minimalism of Brian Eno with the melodic psychedelia of Dark Side of the Moon-era Pink Floyd to create an expansive range of ambient soundscapes suitable as personal background scores for work, play or space travel. The CD includes musical-guest appearances by Jim Brown (Bluebird, Holloys), David Catching (QOTSA, Eagles Of Death Metal, Earthlings?), Cliff Meyer (Isis, Red Sparowes), Aaron North (Jubilee, Nine Inch Nails, Icarus Line), Donita Sparks (L7), Pete Stahl (Dessert Sessions, Scream, Wool, Earthlings?), Jane Wiedlin (Go-Go’s). A fixture on the LA music scene since the early-1990s, Bryan Lee Brown co-founded the avant-alt-rock band, Bluebird. Brown was a key architect of the band’s irreverent blend of hard-driving guitars, arena-rock paraphrases, and a seductive pop literacy which, in releases like the innovative Black Presence, made Bluebird a cult favorite of rock critics and music-industry insiders alike. Brown composed and recorded tracks for the documentaries, The Life Of Reilly (2006), Stylemasters (2006) and Death Bowl to Downtown (2008). In addition, Brown’s compositions have been featured in the work of celebrated new media artist, Jennifer Steinkamp (their video installation collaboration, S.W.E.L.L., is in the permanent collection Los Angeles’ Museum of Contemporary Art),
