Something would have been amiss if Sydney native Daniel Peterson had not emerged as an accomplished singer, guitarist and songwriter, growing up in the infectious, music-loving Peterson household. With a great grandfather who composed songs, a piano playing father, a brass loving uncle, a pianist-songwriting eldest brother and a drumming middle brother, it’s plain to see the bursting musical river from where the inspiration flows. After incessantly practicing at their inner city Newtown home with his older brothers from the age of 6, and with a few underage visits to his middle brother’s rock shows, Peterson discovered new levels of creativity. Flicking through his eldest sibling’s CD collection, a discovery of Jeff Buckley’s ‘Grace’ captivated Peterson’s imagination and stopped his Metallica shredding in its tracks. Realising that even though he could crack his favourite band’s riffs on guitar, it was the weaving of personal, more visceral ideas that really moved him. So, as the Petersons oriented a Master on his voyage, the debonair musician’s sails began filling with a single minded determination to find his own voice, make his brand of music, and be heard from the bow of a ship on course for open water.
