Danger Dan (Daniel Pongratz, born on 1 June 1983 in Aachen) is a German musician, rapper, songwriter and a central figure in the group Antilopen Gang, as well as a solo artist with a distinct political voice in German music. Early Life and Musical Roots Pongratz grew up in a politically engaged household. His parents were active in the left-wing scene and encouraged his early interest in music. He learned piano and other instruments as a child and played in several punk bands and a funk band as a pianist during his youth, long before he was known as a rapper. His younger brother, Tobias Pongratz, introduced him to hip-hop, which marked a turning point in his creative development. Daniel attended Viktoria-Gymnasium in Aachen briefly and was involved in political activism even then; a notable early incident was his arrest during a protest in Munich against the Security Conference in 2001. After several school changes and leaving without completing his Abitur, he passed an entrance exam to study music therapy at Maastricht University in the Netherlands. There he met musician Sebastian Sturm and joined the reggae band Jin Jin, performing as a pianist and recording two albums before leaving the program to pursue music full-time.
