The Dancing French Liberals of '48 were a Seattle punk band, formed by the remaining members of THE GITS after Gits vocalist Mia Zapata was murdered in 1993. Former Gits guitarist Joe Spleen took over vocal duties, and Julian Gibson of the D.C. Beggars was added as a second guitarist. They released their first 7" single, "Spags," in 1995 on Broken Rekids, and followed it with a 10" picture disc containing 5 songs. Their first full length, "Powerline," was released in 1996. DFL '48 did two U.S. tours and several West Coast tours as well as several shows opening for themselves as EVIL STIG (ex-Gits band with Joan Jett on vocals, playing Gits songs live to raise money for Mia's murder investigation). They split up in 1997, soon after drummer Steve Moriarty left the band. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
