Damn Yankees were an American rock supergroup formed in New York City in 1989. The band consisted of singer and guitarist Tommy Shaw of Styx, singer and bassist Jack Blades of Night Ranger, guitarist Ted Nugent of the Amboy Dukes, and drummer Michael Cartellone, who later joined Lynyrd Skynyrd. The group is known for the songs "High Enough" and "Where You Goin' Now," both of which reached the Top 40 in the early 1990s. In the late 1980s, several rock supergroups were formed in the United States, including Bad English, Mr. Big, and Badlands. Damn Yankees was assembled by producer John Kalodner in 1989, bringing together Shaw, Blades, and Nugent after the original bands of its members experienced declining commercial success. Their self-titled debut album, produced by Ron Nevison, was released in 1990 and was certified double-platinum in 1994. The single "Coming of Age," written by Blades, reached number 60 on the U.S. Hot 100 and number 1 on the AOR charts, while "Come Again," written by Shaw, received extensive AOR airplay. "High Enough" became the band's most successful single, reaching number 3 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and number 2 on the AOR charts in early 1991. Damn Yankees also contributed songs to the soundtracks of films such as "Gremlins 2: The New Batch," "Nothing But Trouble," and "The Taking of Beverly Hills."
