Artist
As a self-taught guitarist & keen vocalist from a young age, Damien started out in a teenage rock/grunge band, touring around the local gig venues in Glasgow. After also playing in clubs/pubs throughout Edinburgh as a solo acoustic act, he decided that this was his way forward & now plays regularly in pubs, clubs and venues all over the UK. In 2013, Damien signed to London based record label FWD Motion Music to record his Debut EP, entitled "Distance" (Produced by Jasmeet Singh). The EP consists of 4 tracks: Distance, Lost, Less It Hurts & Had Enough, all written by Damien Johanssen. The music of Damien Johanssen however, is a genre that is extremely hard to define. To simplify it, it's acoustic music in a Scottish accent. But it's so much more than that! Damien's songs have been inspired by a massive variety of music & musicians. With influences such as: Acoustic (Damien Rice, Newton Faulkner, Andy McKee, Ed Sheeran), Rock 'n' Roll (Rolling Stones, The Who), Scottish Folk (Dougie MacLean, Billy Connolly), Modern Metal (Slipknot), Heavy Metal (Black Sabbath, Ronnie James Dio), Thrash Metal (Metallica), Modern Rock (Foo Fighters, Muse) Comedy (Billy Connolly, Stephen Lynch), Psy-Trance (Skazi), as well as countless other local & unsigned musicians, it's easy to see how the outcome can be such an enigma.
