DJ Fishead (more recently billed only as "Fishead") is the performance name of Canadian hardcore DJ and mash-up artist Colin Arason (b.April 20, 1973, Glenboro, Manitoba, Canada). Arason started playing clubs, parties and the Winnipeg, Canada rave scene in the early 1990's. In 1996 he began taking out of town gigs, and soon developed a close association with Massive Magazine. He became a fixture on the Midwest hardcore scene and played at many of the infamous 'Barn parties' in Wisconsin USA, as well as several of the Drop Bass Network's Furthur festivals. In 1998 Arason unleashed a pair of split cassette releases with fellow Winnipegger and friend Aaron Funk (Venetian Snares). Fishead left Winnipeg in 2002 to take up residence in Montreal, PQ, Canada and has since played well-received sets in Montreal and other Canadian and US cities. In February 2004 Arason provided the mix 20m for CBC National Radio show Brave New Waves' twentieth anniversary ("20 songs from 20 years in 20 minutes"). Arason has also recently played in Europe. In 2005, Arason teamed up with fellow Montrealer tobias c. van Veen to produce the radio show "Control To Chaos" for Spanish Internet station http://www.burn.fm. The weekly mixes (also available as free podcasts, via iTunes Music Store or Controltochaos.ca) are eclectic turntablist one-offs frequently built from records purchased the day of the recording, sometimes lubricated with generous amounts of recently purchased liquor.
