With his roots in the mangue beat scene of northern Brazil (Pernambuco/Recife), dub, drum'n'bass, DJ Dolores (Helder Aragão) has produced a unique blend of Brazilian roots music and bass heavy breakbeat electronic music. His bands are formed mostly of live instrumentation combined with himself on decks. His album with the Orchestra Santa Massa, "Contraditorio?" won the BBC's Club Global Section of their World Music Awards in 2004.
