Artist
DJ DMD (Daniel Wayne Johnson) is an American DJ, producer, and rapper from Port Arthur, Texas, best known for his influential role in the Southern hip-hop scene. Emerging in the early 1990s, he gained recognition as a member of the group Fifth Ward Boyz and through collaborations with Texas rap legends like UGK. In 1997, he released his debut solo album Eleven, showcasing a blend of laid-back Southern beats and sharp lyricism. His most notable hit, “25 Lighters” (1998), featuring Lil’ Keke and Fat Pat, became a Texas rap classic, later reimagined in gospel form as “25 Bibles on My Dresser” after DMD stepped back from mainstream music to focus on his Christian faith. Known for bridging the gap between street rap and positive messages, DJ DMD remains a respected figure in Texas hip-hop history.
