about

Amoeba (real name Philip Matta) was born in 1987 in MI, USA. At a very young age, Philip was recognized in newspapers around the area as a piano prodigy. On two occasions, Philip was featured on the local news stations, showcasing the piano and singing shows he performed at local venues. His classical training in piano had him listening to a lot of classical music, but at the same time he developed a taste for rock music. He started writing music at a young age with influences such as the Beatles and Elvis, along with many classical music influences. Deciding to put his musical abilities to work, he played guitar and sang with rock band which he created. Philip went on to play many local shows, and at the Taste Of Chicago in Grant Park. Focusing on school, he decided to get a Music Business degree from Oakland University, while still pursuing his musical endeavors. He decided it was time to make an album. In the summer of 2007, he was introduced to Psychedelic / Goa trance, and although he was more focused on rock music in the beginning of his musical journey, over the span of a few years, he couldn't stop thinking about what it would be like to create an electronic album. The result of this is Electric Mind, Philip's first official release. The album became live on July 22nd, 2010. Although it's referred to as Psytrance, many have come to say that it isn't like anything that they've ever heard. The word "Amoeba" is derived from the Greek, amoibē, which means change. Changi
