D'ERLANGER is a Japanese band that is one of the first visual kei bands and widely considered to be a part of and important to the formation of Visual Kei. The band created in 1982 formed in 1983 and had disbanded seven years later (apparently due to management issues) in 1990. Their guitarist, CIPHER, was only 15-16 years old at the time of their formation. Their current vocalist Kyo and their current drummer TETSU were the famous X JAPAN guitarist hide's bandmates in yokosuka SAVER TIGER. They were one of the pioneers of the so-called “Visual Kei” and had a great influence on the bands and artists that followed such as DIR EN GREY, MUCC, LUNA SEA , cali≠gari, The Slut Banks, 黒夢, Hyde and more... It is well known that “D'ERLANGER” is French for “lewd seduction,” but “erlanger” is not listed in the French dictionary (Oxford Concise French Dictionary). As shown on the cover of their first album, there was a time when they advocated their own genre as “SADISTICAL PUNK''. After D’ERLANGER’s disbandment, Kyo formed Die In Cries, had a solo career (see Kyo), and then formed BUG. After TETSU’s departure from ZI:KILL, which he had joined right after the disbandment of D’ERLANGER, TETSU formed BODY alongside his ex.
