Cursing Caroline formed in 2006 after the two members Josh Hunt and James Payne left their previous music project to find something more from their music. After having been introduced to various orchestral music scores by a number of different composers Josh and James strived to fuse classical music scores with their acoustic and folk influences to develop their own unique style. The pair believe that there is something profound and exciting in mixing contemporary orchestral sounds with the familiar tone of a warm acoustic guitar. By recording and producing their own material the band are able to create their own unique identity by placing a unique stamp on each track and they continue to work by this ethos today. Their debut EP ‘Alone and in Despair’ is a classic example of discovery and experimentation as the band look to find themselves musically. The EP holds a certain melancholy as the duo cover a number of challenging issues including child abuse, loss and reincarnation. ‘Alone and in Despair’ takes you through the emotions as Cursing Caroline draw from life experience and inspiration from others to bring you a collection of truly heartfelt pieces of music. As the band look on to 2009 they foresee a number of changes. “We see Alone and in Despair as a stepping stone for us, the EP demonstrates us finding our feet.
