Crato Butner, also Büthner, Buttner (born 1616 in Sonneberg - d. 1679 in Gdańsk) was a German Baroque composer. A native of Thuringia , where he came to Gdansk. Between 1654-5 he was organist at the church of the Savior on Zaroślak (district of Gdansk, German Petershagen). After the death of the famous Gdańsk cantor and composer, Christoph Werner , he was appointed cantor in located in the center of St. Catherine . From 1652 until his death in 1679 was a cantor and organist at the same church. He also taught and helped to flourish in Gdansk Evangelical church music and music education in this field. He was an active musician throughout his life, probably until the end of his life he remained unmarried. As a composer he underwent a large extent the Italian style, which combined in his works of the North German tradition of evangelical music. He is the author of many religious works concerting to the voices of the cast instrumental, as well as other tracks and songs.
