Artist
The Coyabalites are doing what no other group in the present era seem to be doing. They are not merely out to preserve one of the great musical styles from the late fifties into the middle of the next decade, but are invigorating that sound as well. Beginning as the house band for the Coyaba River Garden and Museum in Ocho Rios, Jamaica and featuring ska, rocksteady and reggae veterans such as Justin Hinds, Ernest Ranglin, Glen DaCosta, David Madden, Vin Gordon and Dean Fraser, supported by artists like Maxwell and Fitzroy Hinds, Judy Gordon, Carrel Hewitt, David McIntosh, Leon Ellis, Dennis Smith, Noel Seale and Akete, the Coyabalites soon debuted on Shanachie Records with their first album, 1997's "Unhinged". Check out the classics "Carry Go Bring Come" (re-titled "Coyaba Ska"), "My Boy Lollipop" and "Monkey Man", as well as the Skatalites' "Eastern Standard Time" and "Bonanza Ska', alongside Harry J. And The All Stars" "The Liquidator". This is a must, not only for Ska to Regge fans, but for anyone claiming a love of all genuine roots music.
