For his first solo album, released by Magic Eye Singles in 1998, Daniel Higgs took the name Cone Of Light, unveiling homemade recordings of shamanistic summonings. Beginning with a warning akin to the last transmission of a doomed expedition ("Audio mainline to the brain. Beware. Prepare. You are now entering the Cone Of Light"), the single 35 minute track cuts a switchback trail through telescopic feedback and primitive percussion into eerily melodic vocal keening, brief birdsong and loping guitar pieces planted firmly in Lungfish territory.
