On a fateful day in Ann Arbor, jazz pianist Cade Sperlich, and guitarists David Nestor and Nick Yribar came together over a dying fish. Collin had been diagnosed as comatose, and after weeks of CPR and nurturing, the fish passed on to a better world. Thus, Comatose Collin was formed. But they were just fooling around until blues singer Ben Balmer appeared at the last minute to fill in for their missing singer (Ann Arbor rap-rocker Noah Dub). The boys debated it, but finally decided to take on the blues singer, with the condition that they were NOT a blues band, and would never become one. Regardless of this condition, the indie rock that Comatose Collin pumps out certainly reflects Balmer's roots in old Motown and classic blues. The semi-permanent addition of the violinist, Diana in 2005, adds yet another demension to this complexly indie-blues band.
