CIRCLE OF FAIRIES is an Italian symphonic quintet similar to FANCY FLUID and FINESTERRE. Their style, however, has more of a contemporary feel than typical Italian symphonic prog and you can hear some TWELFTH NIGHT, ABEL GANZ and CHANDELIER influences as well on their (only) album. Their material is vocal dominated, with singer Carlo Biorcio sounding like a cross between FISH and Geoff MANN. Aside from Biorcio, the line-up consists of Luigi Ametta on acoustic and electric guitars, Gianfranco Milone on keyboards, Piero Pedicini on bass and Elisa Pilotti on drums (a rare female drummer). Their album "As the Years Go By" is borderline prog/neo prog and the musicianship isn't always perfect, but it has an energy and freshness that make it undeniably likeable. The tracks are long and well written, the keyboard landscapes are delicately sculptured and the production is fairly good. Just when you thought you're scalped the bottom of the barrel as far as Italian prog is concerned, CIRCLE OF FAIRIES's youthful energy comes as a nice surprise. Not essential but fans of FINESTERRE and FANCYFLUID should appreciate, provided they don't mind a little neo with their prog. : : : Lise (HIBOU), CANADA : : : User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
