Artist
The frail voice of a child-ghost or that of a psychotic angel, accompanied by his own banjos. Cinema of Spirits makes childlike and gothic "new folk", neatly combining dread with comfort. Cinema of Spirits is the artist-moniker of the norwegian banjoist, singer/songwriter Stein Henning Berg. Berg was formerly a member of avantgarderockduo Alpine Those Myriads (then as "Elijah Noah") and of splatterfolkduo Thinguma*jigSaw (then as "Seth Horatio Buncombe"). Berg has collaborated on record with outsider artist legend Daniel Johnston and the actor Brad Dourif ("One Flew Over The Cuckoo`s Nest" / "Lord Of The Rings"). The music of Berg has been described as "deeply unsettling, yet strangely comforting" (New York Post), "f***ing incredible" (Miles Hunt, MTV), "he can really play that thing" (David Eugene Edwards, 16 Horsepower/ Woven Hand), "his banjo style is beautiful and rad" (Abigail Washburn) and "I dare anyone to say his music is not beautiful" (Robert Caldwell, Musica, NY). Cinema of Spirits is influenced by films of art and horror, campfire tales, sci-fi stories, spiritual insights, modernist poetry, american, irish and scandinavian folk, the early solo work of Alice Cooper, appalachian murder ballads, outsider artist Daniel Johnston, visions of the afterlife, frail childhood memories.
