"I don't like gimmicks." The young Queens born producer, Chrono Khalid, has always been destined for creative greatness. He did not fall far from the musical family tree, as the son of a bass player; he began playing the xylophone at the young age of four. He moved along with his parents and large family to California at the age of ten but life detoured for Chrono when his father's health took an unfortunate turn for the worst and he was forced into hustling as a means to survive. Yet even in the streets, he still seemed to find music all around him and says that he started making miniature beats on a $12 keyboard he bought off someone at the age of ten. "I love to study instruments, study how they work, sounds and tones are what adds magic to your compositions. It's all about sound at the end of the day. If you incorporate instruments into your music depending on the instrument used, you'll gives it a different vibe and twist everytime. Sound actually inspires me more than anything, more than actual compositions. The sound gives me the actual idea and then it's like starting with a [musical] skeleton and building it up." At the age of sixteen, Chrono's natural music ability put him back on track. The now, self-taught bass and keyboard player, decided to take charge of his life and moved back to New York to finish high school and pursue making music. He credits his interest in rapping and producing as the catalysts or much needed wake-up call that launched him in a positive
