Christy Doran has earned quite a reputation for his exuberant style, his relentless quest and his unremitting creativeness. For this Dublin-born guitarist there are no boundaries between jazz and rock. His versatility is underlined by the variety of people he has worked with: Dom Um Romao, Norma Winstone, Trilok Gurtu, John Surman, Bobby Previte, Carla Bley and Bob Stewart. Bruno Amstad blends the technique of overtones with electronic effects. His influences are both ethnic chants and techno music. Bass guitarist Wolfgang Zwiauer has toured with David Gilmore, Roberto Gatto, Wolfgang Muthspiel and others. Even though drummer Dominik Burkhalter grew up with techno, house and dub, the legendary band of John Coltrane and Miles Davis has always occupied a special place in his heart. His unique style makes this ‘Elvin Jones of the backbeat’ one of the most sought after drummers in Switzerland. Keyboard player Hans-Peter Pfammatter uses samplers, sound programming and other state-of-the-art techniques. Doran formed the group New Bag in Switzerland in 1997; from 1998-2000 the band toured the world, playing dates in North and South America, Africa, and Europe. In 2001, the band toured to promote their CD Black Box (On Cue Records), which featured the Indian master drummer Muthuswamy Balasubramoniam. Doran teaches at the Musikhochschule of Lucerne.
