Christopher Theofanidis (born December 18, 1967) is an American composer. Theofanidis was born in Dallas, Texas. He holds degrees from the University of Houston, Eastman School of Music, and Yale University, and has been hailed as one of the leading composers of his generation. Theofanidis was the winner of the 2003 Masterprize for Rainbow Body (which has subsequently become the world's most-performed orchestral work by a living composer), and has also been the recipient of the Rome Prize, a Guggenheim Fellowship, the Barlow Prize (1996), six ASCAP Morton Gould Prizes, a Fulbright Fellowship to France, a Tanglewood Fellowship, and The American Academy of Arts and Letters Charles Ives Fellowship. He has served as a delegate to the US-Japan Foundation's Leadership Program. Theofanidis's works have been performed by many leading orchestras from around the world, including the National Symphony, the London Symphony, the Oslo Philharmonic, the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic, the Moscow Soloists, the Atlanta and Houston Symphonies, the California Symphony (for which he was composer-in-residence from 1994 to 1996 under its Young American Composer-in-Residence Program), the Oregon Symphony, the Brooklyn Philharmonic, and the Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra, among others.
