Artist
Chris & Craig were the duo of singer/songwriters Chris Ducey and Craig Smith, who put out one rare single on Capitol in 1966. The A-side, "Isha," was a fairly adventurous folk-rock song with a strong hint of psychedelia, particularly in the Eastern-style melody and harpsichord. The flip side, "I Need You," was a more routine and poppy folk-rocker. Ducey and Smith would continue to work together in the Penny Arkade, who did some good folk-rock with psychedelic trimmings that could recall aspects of both Buffalo Springfield and the Monkees. None of the Penny Arkade's recordings (produced by Mike Nesmith) were released before the band broke up in the late '60s, but about an album's worth of them showed up on the strange early-'70s LPs credited to Maitreya Kali. Maitreya Kali was a pseudonym for Craig Smith, and some of his post-Penny Arkade solo recordings were combined with Penny Arkade leftovers for the Maitreya Kali albums; the whole complicated saga is detailed in the entries for the Penny Arkade, Maitreya Kali, and Craig Smith.
