Chixdiggit! are a Canadian pop punk band formed in Calgary, Alberta, in 1991 by vocalist and rhythm guitarist K.J. Jansen, lead guitarist Mark O'Flaherty, and bassist Mike Eggermont. In 1990, Jansen, O'Flaherty, and Eggermont decided to sell t-shirts with the word Chixdiggit—a sensational spelling of the phrase “chicks dig it,”—on it, designed in cheesy metal fonts. Sales of the shirts provided the band with enough money to purchase a drum kit, but none of the members had any musical experience at the time. O'Flaherty, however, did own a classical guitar. This inspired Eggermont to take bass duties, and Jansen to take on the role of being the band’s lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist. Chixdiggit! would play shows throughout the early nineties, opening for notable names such as post-grunge band The Presidents of the United States of America. This got independent label Sub Pop Records to come knocking at their door, signing the band in early 1996. In May of that same year, their debut self-titled release would be issued. Chixdiggit! would quickly be dropped, as they were deemed “a bad fit.” They were soon signed to Honest Don’s Records afterwards, a Fat Wreck Chords subsidiary from San Francisco. Chixdiggit! would release Born on the First of July in 1998, and followed it up with 2000’s From Scene to Shining Scene. The band would take a short hiatus afterward, returning in 2003. During this time period, Mike Eggermont left the band in 2002 to start a software company. In 200
