Artist
"Chiara Angelicola introduced herself to the world as the powerful frontwoman of the funky pop band Morning Theory. But despite the raucous energy of Morning Theory, Chiara found herself listening to mellower, acoustic, folk-inspired music. Cash, Fiona Apple, Patsy Cline, and Pixies are some of the artists who helped her find herself when Morning Theory decided to take a breather. Chiara’s solo debut, Bird Songs, is all the intimate honest love that pop music fails to capture; A successful outlet of a very complex set of emotions. Working with producer/musician David Reep (a graduate of Ex’pression College for Digital Arts), Chiara set out to catch and release her true feelings. “It's really healthy and a natural, progressive step to be taking and drawing from all of my real love relationships, not the kind that lend themselves so well to pop nuggets for Morning Theory songs.” Mr. Reep, who cites Townes Van Zandt at the top of a long list of influences, was the perfect partner in this project. His production work shows a great deal of mature restraint. The stage he built for Chiara included no chains to hold her back. Music goes back a long way for Chiara. She grew up with the sounds of her mother --a Guatemalan jazz musician-- singing and playing piano. Chiara’s first training was all in jazz, and she found her voice on standards, like Sinatra and Holiday before her. With Bird Songs she mates her stunning and versatile voice with apt lyrics that don’t hide behind cliché me
