Artist
Charlotte sings Jazz in London and fronts the Charlotte Black Band. She graduated from the University of Northumbria at Newcastle with a B.A. (Hons) in Music and moved to Tokyo, Japan in 1994. It was here that she began her love of Jazz, singing with Eriko Ohara (pianist) and working and singing in Jazz bars in Tokyo. She also co-founded the band Azure, with Gareth Mealor, and sang for 8 years on the Japanese music circuit. She returned to the UK in 2002 and began teaching singing/voice and working on the London Jazz scene in 2003. She works 3 days a week at King Alfred School in Hampstead and 1 day a week as Head of Music in Shooters Hill Post-16 campus with 16 to 19 year olds with learning disabilities and difficulties. As well as working in schools she teaches musicians, actors, adults and children Voice/Singing and Piano. She is happy to announce that she has recently been asked by Keith and Jayne Angel to join the band Orchestre Ruffanti as one of their 3 vocalists, an exciting 12 piece group based in South Yorkshire.
