Musician, vocalist, lyricist, songwriter, and producer. Andreas’ solo project, Charlie Skien, has so far released seven singles and one EP. His releases under the Skien name have received glowing reviews, and with Det Gjør Ikke Vondt, he is finally stepping into the spotlight with his long-awaited debut album. Charlie Skien has been described as “a laid-back indie-trapper with catchy choruses, gritty productions, and a distinctive, sexy, bubbling voice” (Gaffa), “full of abrasive, dirty synths, guitars, and saxophones” (VG), and “a voice that goes a bass octave higher […] all-consuming and atmospheric” (Bergens Tidende). He has also received widespread praise for his deeply personal lyrics. Andreas does not hide the fact that he has recently been through a challenging period in his life, with addiction and negativity as the main ingredients. This thematic weight shapes much of the lyrical content on both Det Gjør Ikke Vondt and his earlier releases; however, having come out the other side sober, traces of hope and optimism can also be found throughout the album. The sonic landscape of Det Gjør Ikke Vondt is somewhat more rock-oriented than what one might associate with Andreas’ earlier musical constellations. It is dirty and brutal, catchy and vulnerable — often within the very same song — yet the compositions still share a common thread of indie pop, the hallmark of the Charlie Skien project.
