Charles Strouse (born June 7, 1928) is an American composer & lyricist. Lee Richard Adams (born August 14, 1924) is an American lyricist best known for his musical theatre collaboration with Charles Strouse. Born in Mansfield, Ohio, Adams received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Ohio State University & a Master's from Columbia University. Charles Strouse & Lee Adams won Tony Awards in 1961 for "Bye Bye Birdie" & in 1970 for "Applause." In addition, they wrote "All American, Golden Boy," "It's a Bird...It's a Plane...It's Superman," "Bring Back Birdie," & "A Broadway Musical," & Lee Adams wrote the book & lyrics for "Ain't Broadway Grand." Additionally, Charles Strouse & Lee Adams co-wrote "Those Were the Days", the opening theme to the TV situation comedy "All In The Family." Charles Strouse was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1985, & Lee Adams was inducted in 1989.
