A Turkish band which started as a popular Folk group in 1974, transformed into a Progressive Rock group and ended up as by far the most political group in the country. Dervişan (meaning "Dervishes" in Ottoman Turkish) was founded in the political turmoil of the 1970's. After the foundation, the original members Uğur Dikmen, Ünal Büyükgönenç, Hüseyin Sultanoğlu were joined by Cem Karaca whose reputation surpassed them at the time being. Therefore, their collaboration was called Cem Karaca & Dervişan. Dervişan disbanded after a lawsuit was filed against their prominent longplay 1 Mayıs / Durduramayacaklar Halkın Coşkun Akan Selini which was inspired by the "Bloody Sunday" incident on the May 1st (Labour Day) 1977.
