Casino Shanghai is a techno-pop band founded in the 80's by Ulalume, Carlos Robledo & Walter Schmidt when they worked on a set of tunes for a farewell party of Ulalume at Club 9. They became favorites at Club 9 and were part of a great cultural change in MX and its music scene. Later and Humberto Alvarez joined the band. Casino Shanghai made various controversial appearances on TV when a band without a drummer or guitarist was unheard of. All members had been in different notorious bands in the local scene. Ulalume was the lead singer for The Casuals ( Punk, New Wave band) and DenseUndergrowth (Avant-garde trio ) Carlos and Walter had been playing together for many years in Decibel (an experimental band) and Size (a punk band). Humberto had been playing with MCC (Underground ). Casino Shanghai signed a record deal to create the album "Film" with WEA / COMROCK, a label owned by Chela Braniff and Juan Navarro. The album was released in December of 1985. The music of Casino Shanghai was used for the soundtrack of "Cronicas de Familia" directed by Diego Lopez that was nominated for the Ariel award for best original soundtrack in1986. They had a guest appearance in the movie " Juana La Cantinera" directed by José Loza. Soon after Humberto Alvarez left the band. Ulalume, Carlos & Walter recorded Le Tombeau D'Edgar Poe & L'Action Minimal 1986 as part of a solo EP for Ulalume that was later incorporated into the repertoire of Casino Shanghai with the participation of Eddie Rubell
