There is more than one artist with this name. A French rock band formed in 2006 (www.last.fm/music/carvel) and a British alternative rock band formed in 1998 (www.last.fm/music/carvelweb). This page is for the French band Carvel. Some music is made of the stuff you can’t really pigeonhole. Dirt and grime and silk and precious stones. Beautiful songs and pretty tunes and soulful numbers and raucous jams that don't fall into just one category. Caravel make rock music with a hint of jazz and blues, ambient layers, catchy hooks and plenty of soul. They write compelling songs about broken people, the depravity and redeemability of the human heart; the general desperation, beauty, and magic of everyday life and love. Sometimes raw and sometimes polished they take cues from Rufus Wainwright, U2, Tom Waits, Mute Math, Elton John, and Death Cab For Cutie. Forged in the heat of summer, long drives to distant bars and endless practices, the boys of Caravel have been knit together into a sturdy traveling band in the American tradition. They’ve also succeeded in creating something relevant and engaging in their live shows and recordings, playing dates all over the west coast since their inception in 2006.
