Born and raised in Michigan City Indiana, (James) Carter Cathcart has been involved in music since the tender age of 2 weeks, when his mom would sit him on her knee at the piano, play a note, and he would sing it back in pitch. Uh oh. Piano lessons started at the age of 5, and he formed his 1st band, The Impossibles, at 11, playing the 1965 Miss Indiana Pageant. Then it was off to Interlochen Arts Academy at 14, where he majored in piano and met Dave Brubeck's son Chris. After graduation, JCC joined Brubeck's New Heavenly Blue and recorded for Atlantic Records while touring extensively with NHB and Daddy Dave in the 2 Generations of Brubeck. He shared the stage with Gerry Mulligan and Paul Desmond, as well as Alan Dawson and Jack Six. Moving to NYC in 1973, JCC played in Gerry Mulligan's Age Of Steam band and then joined the band Hard Candy, which after several incarnations morphed into The Laughing Dogs, who recorded 2 albums for CBS. At the same time, JCC was doing extensive studio work with the likes of Rupert Holmes and the Brecker Brothers, and building his own studio and production company. JCC currently divides his time between music, his 2 kids and Pokemon - voice work and script adapting.
