There are five bands using the name Canvas. 1). Canvas are a band from Leeds, England, who existed between 1996 and 2000, and have now returned in 2017 for a handful of shows. They blend metal and hardcore, technical and progressive variations, with a heavy dose of atmosphere. They played a lot around all reaches of the UK, and a few festivals / shows in Europe. Their first full-length was a self-titled collection of a few recordings which was more of the straight edge / hardcore / thrash style and was released in 1998. Next came an EP released as a split with UK grindcore band Hard To Swallow, and this was much heavier, downtuned, Meshuggah-influenced in parts. That was followed up with the much more experimental and progressive Lost In Rock, which was an hour long combination of a very wide sample of styles and riff ideas, generally within their trademark metallic / hardcore style, but featuring even more chaotic riffs, some lighter atmospheric parts, electronic interludes and the album was very well received all around Europe. The band went on indefinite, unplanned hiatus at the start of 2000, never getting to play 'A Final Show'. In 2017, the Sutcliffe brothers resurrected the band with a different line up, to play a small series of shows, in the UK and Iceland, and they have announced their two final shows for early 2018.
