Cálix is one of the most respected contemporary independent rock bands in Brazil. Having performed on most renowned stages and music festivals of the country for over 15 years, the band blends influences ranging from Progressive Rock and Folk to Popular Brazilian Music (MPB), inheriting and incorporating the distinctive sounds from their home state of Minas Gerais. The results - harmonic fusions of handcrafted guitars, mandolin and bass, flute, drums and percussions, perfectly sewed vocals and poetry - are recorded in 1 single, 3 albums and a DVD, with over 10,000 copies sold. The debut single, recorded in 1998, captivated a growing legion of fans astonished with the exceptional quality of the local music scene of which Cálix took part as a prominent member. In 2000, after releasing the first album “Canções de Beurin” (Songs from Beurin), Cálix gained national recognition, being awarded the Best Breakthrough Artist, Best Album and Best Performance of the year . Their second album, “A Roda” (The Wheel), released in 2002, crowned the versatility of the band, evolving from the previous powerful progressive recordings into carefully arranged melodies, creating dialogues between a classic orchestra, the rock ‘n’ roll style and Brazilian references, entwined with poetic lyrics that reflected a matured phase for the musicians.
