The California EAR Unit is an American chamber ensemble dedicated to the performance of contemporary classical music. The group was founded in March 1981 and is based in Los Angeles, California. Since 1987 the California EAR Unit has been Ensemble-in-Residence at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. During that time they have presented over 500 premieres of musical works. The California EAR Unit has commissioned a work from the composer Louis Andriessen, and has worked with Wadada Leo Smith and Annea Lockwood.
