Cántara was born in 1984 in order to research and popularize dancing as well as traditional Asturian Music. After all the hard work, Cántara starts of with the bagpipe band made up about 22 members with instruments such as bagpipes, percussions and accordions. The work done in this period if time took shape in the recording of three records made between 1995-1999 with a great welcome by the critics and public. Cántara has created a new concept in Bagpipe Bands including instruments as keyboards, side flutes, electronic drums... giving a Folk Band behaibour for the very first time in the Asturian music scene. In a paralel a traditional dance group, which has saved part of our cultural heritage shown in ballads, dances, popular melodies, customes, etc, from different Asturian areas, has been kept up. From the fusion of the bagpipe band and the dance group an innovate show, new in the history of Asturian music until now, has arisen. It presents a wide and varied repertorie that has already been really success full in the different International Festivals where it was shown.
