Artist
Butcher Birds formed in Brisbane, Australia in late 2005, after Stacey Coleman (vocals/guitar) and Joanna Nilson (bass/vocals) met across the table at a party. Steven Tronc was recruited for drums and Jacinta Walker (guitar/vocals) was rounded up after a conversation and much cigarette smoking in the toilets of Fortitude Valley pub, the Waterloo. They made "Eat Their Young," a four-track EP in 2006, which was released through Brisbane label Merenoise and MGM. It garnered a great response from local and national music press, who compared it to artists like L7, the Breeders, Sonic Youth, Mudhoney and My Bloody Valentine. This lead to touring and shows with bands like Beasts of Bourbon, The Drones, Black Mountain, New Pornographers and Eagles of Death Metal (amongst others) plus many festival appearances. In early 2008, Steven Tronc parted ways with the rest of the band, and was replaced by Donovan Miller, a fan of the band from Lismore, who added some male vocals and a more muscular style to the group. Butcher Birds released their first full-length album, "Set My Bones", in late 2009. Two songs from the album - "Millions" and "Bare Arms" - were voted numbers 6 and 7 in the Hot 100 for 2009 of Brisbane independent radio station 4ZzZ - FM User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
