Guitarists-singers-composers Octávio Burnier and Claudio Cartier met in 1968 at the Movimento Artístico Universitário (MAU, University Art Movement) in Rio de Janeiro and started to compose together two years later. The duo recorded their first LP, Burnier & Cartier for RCA in 1974, They joined with Sônia Bonfá to form the vocal trio Papo de Anjo exclusively for the soundtrack to the TV Globo program "Sítio do pica-pau Amarelo". They participated in the Participou do Festival Abertura for TV Globo in 1975, with the song Ficaram nus, which was selected among the finalists for the LP that commemorated the event. The following year, they signed to Odeon on the suggestion of Milton Nascimento to the then artistic director of the label, Mariozinho Rocha. They recorded their second LP, also called "Burnier & Cartier". In 1977, the pair were invited by jazz musician Don Burrows to perform in Australia. The concerts were recorded and released as Brazilian Parrot. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
