Formed as a blues band in 1991 as 'Sushi'. The name was changed to 'Burlesque Engine' in 1998. With the change in name came a change in sound showing heavy rock influence. Following their motto 'simple is beautiful' and 'singing just the title' lyrics and sound are reminiscent of Japanese crime movies of the 70's and 80's. Their music has a very mesmerizing feel that draws you in and keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout the listening experience. Burlesque Engine were renown for their energetic live appearances. They released two singles and three albums from 2000 to 2004. They make a short guest appearance in the 2005 movie 'Turtles Swim Faster Than Expected' (亀は意外と速く泳ぐ).
