Education: Church music (Heidelberg), composition (Basel, under Roland Moser) and directing (Trossingen) Teaching positions: Heidelberg (music theory, improvisation, composition), Hannover (choral conducting) Professor for music theory at Mannheim University of Music and Performing Arts (1999 - 2006) Since 2003: Lecturer in music theory at Zurich University of the Arts Artistic director of the Kammerchor Winterthur, the Museumskonzerte Winterthur, the meersburger sommerakademie, guest director for various ensembles (mostly in the field of new music) Vocal music and the multifaceted nuances and tonal possibilities of the human voice are the primary focus of Burkhard Kinzler's compositions. He concentrates on writing chamber and ensemble music for various formations. Kinzler particularly enjoys the challenge of completing commissions that have a special and specific connection to the performance situation. He is also interested in composing new music for amateurs and is eager to disseminate new aural experiences to people with no professional musical education by creating pieces and concepts for the task. As a consequence, almost all of his works are the result of commissions. His pieces are performed at home an
