Guns and Butter, the debut record by Durham, NC rock and roll band Bull City melds the twin universes of heady, precise indie rock and Southern-fried classic rock. Hometown heroes who have honed their chops in many other bands in the Chapel Hill/Raleigh/Durham ‘Triangle’ music scene, the four equal members of Bull City bring equal amounts of inspired songcraft, sonic invention and to put it quite simply, "the rock." Despite Bull City's relatively short history and disclaimer of any specific influences (officially ranging from “anyone to everyone”) the band’s low-key, locally-distributed EPs and myspace tracks have attracted immediate attention from fans of like-minded bands such as My Morning Jacket (whose longtime soundman Ryan Pickett coproduced key Guns and Butter tracks "Game" and "Knock it Down"), Kings of Leon and genre godfathers Wilco. Rich Ivey of the Independent wrote: "Like the sonically similar Wilco, Durham's Bull City melds the pop cognizance of Alex Chilton, the face-peeling passion of Neil Young and the empirical studio slight-handedness of Jim O'Rourke.
