There are at least three artists named "Buddy": 1) Buddy is an American singer-songwriter originally from Portland, Oregon. He began developing an interest in music at an early age, receiving his first guitar at age 10 and forming his first band by the time he was 16, influenced by R.E.M. Buddy attended Providence College in Rhode Island, where he studied English. During this period he experienced significant stage fright, which affected his early performing career. After graduating, he moved to Austin, Texas, where he became involved in the local music scene and joined a band called Piltdowns. The group built a following, supported acts such as Spoon, and received interest from local record labels. In 2002, Buddy relocated to Los Angeles, California, where he continued writing and performing. He played his first show under the name Buddy at the Hotel Café in July 2004. His career progressed after connecting with author Greg Behrendt, known for "He’s Just Not That Into You." Through performances at Behrendt’s musician and comedian events, producer Robbie Rist became interested in Buddy’s work. The two collaborated on Buddy’s debut EP, titled "Buddy," which was released on November 30, 2004. The release included a cover of Kelis’s song "Milkshake." Following the EP’s release, DJ Tricia Halloran of KCRW in Santa Monica began airing Buddy’s track "Salt Point." Interest from record labels in the United Kingdom followed, though no agreements were finalized at that time. Buddy’
