Again we have a voice that begs for inclusion in The DiscoMuseum, and again an exhaustive search has turned up very little on Bruni Pagan. We first noticed Bruni when she did vocals for the late Herbie Mann on his 1978 disco outting "Super Mann." The album had the hits "Jisco Dazz" and "Superman." And Bruni was in stellar company, for Christine Wiltshire, Venus Dodson, Jocelyn Shaw, Leroy Burgess and Patrick Adams were also a part of the album. In fact a friendship between Pagan, Mann and Adams led to Mann and Adams contributing their talents the following year for Bruni's only solo album. 1979's "Just Bruni" was a wonderful album, ripe with disco, jazz, ballads and soulful numbers. The first 12" single was "Fantasy." An easy going number with backgrounds by Holly Oas, Christine Wiltshire and Bruni. It raced up the club charts and landed in the top ten. The second 12" single "Lovers" (written by Adams) didn't fare as well. Not that it isn't as good but part of the reason was it's timing. It was released too late after the first single and it was recorded before and released after the disco back-lash. By then Elektra had given up promoting anything in the club market, so it was doomed from the start. The other four tracks on the album were fun also. "Don't Be So Mean (In Your Jeans)" was campy and "It's The Scene," "You Refuse To See" and "Late For Love" all show Bruni's warm voice and easy going style.
